PLEDGE SUNDAY

APRIL 14

Whether you pledged ONLINE or with a Pledge Card (available at church), we are going to collect all the pledges on Sunday, 4/14 and celebrate together with an interactive pledge board, raffle for all pledgers, bounce house and giveaways. It will be a party for the entire family!

OUR STORY

Renew Church LA launched on April 5, 2015 (Easter) with a beautiful mission: “to renew a broken people who will renew a broken city through the Gospel of Jesus.”

We aspired to be an authentic community of broken people eagerly seeking gospel renewal for ourselves and the city. In the 8 ensuing years, we faithfully lived out this mission, and witnessed this little family birthed in Culver City become an incredibly diverse, inclusive, healing, gospel-centered church that has deeply impacted the lives of many on the Westside and throughout greater Los Angeles.

The God stories we have experienced over these last 8 years are too many to count. But the community itself is perhaps the greatest God story. On any given Sunday, we look across the church, and there are people of every color, culture and background. At Renew, it is normal to see the affluent worshiping next to the unhoused; ‘silicon-beachers’ embracing the recently incarcerated; college students doing life with families. Our community always was and is a beautiful riot.

The most common refrain we would hear about the church was that Renew welcomed you “as you really are.” We actually introduced ourselves to visitors as  a “hospital church rather than a museum”, for a hospital is a place for broken, wounded people seeking healing. A museum, in contrast, is a place for perfect looking specimens that are dead and stuffed behind glass. For 8 years, we were unapologetically a hospital church, a refuge for the broken, a place of renewal and healing. And God did so many beautiful things…

our home

After 6 years of being in West LA College as our Sunday home, Renew had to vacate due to major campus renovations. We are not unfamiliar with moving. All throughout the pandemic, Renew had to meet in borrowed spaces, even parking lots. We have been a set up, tear down church ever since we launched. But this move felt different. We sensed God was taking us on a deeper journey where the conclusion would not be another borrowed space, but our own home. And thank God, he has indeed brought us home.

14th & Arizona, Santa Monica, CA

HOME. Not a Sunday pop-up site. Our actual home. By truly miraculous provision, God has made our home in Santa Monica, in a beautiful, historic church on14th and Arizona.

This is where we will do family, love God together and be loved by him; this is where we will raise generations, have weddings, baby dedications, salvations and baptisms, healings and reconciliations and breakthroughs. Most importantly, this is where we will live out our new mission as a church.

RENEW EXISTS TO MAKE DISCIPLES WHO ARE RENEWED BY THE GOSPEL AND BECOME GOSPEL RENEWAL TO THE CITY

This new articulation of our mission clarifies what Gospel renewal looks like for us in Santa Monica. We wanted “to renew a broken people through the Gospel of Jesus.” What does that actually look like? Discipleship. We wanted “to renew a broken city through the Gospel of Jesus.” What does that actually look like? Disciples making disciples. Everything hinges on discipleship.

We believe God did not just give us a new building, but a new mandate by which we occupy our new home: make disciples in Santa Monica. In doing so, we will more deeply fulfill the original, beautiful words we lived out the last 8 years— to renew a broken people who will renew a broken city through the Gospel of Jesus.

our plan

TARGET: $1 MILLION by May 2025

PROJECTS

  • $500,000 towards the purchasing of our home in 2025

  • $300,000 towards full bathroom remodel,  roof repair, foundation retro-fitting

  • $150,000 towards an elevator

  • $50,000 towards AV and lighting upgrades

Your pledge is over and above your normal giving. Our church operates on the generous donations of our members. We don’t want fundraising for these projects to affect our ability to conduct our day-to-day ministry activities. So we ask that you prayerfully consider what you could give beyond your typical giving or tithing.
