Give me Jesus

The-Name-of-Jesus
The-Name-of-Jesus

I've spent the last few days in West LA visiting a Mosque, Buddhist temple, Hare Krishna center, Masonic Lodge, B'hai Temple, Venice Beach (stranger than all of the places I just mentioned), just to get a sense of the spiritual climate here.  I walked away so grateful that I have Jesus. He is the way, the truth and the life, and the lover of my soul.  There's no one else like him. No one. Which made Sunday evening hard to stomach. I attended a church in Los Angeles that tries to be so relevant and hip that it forgot to say his name. Spent the whole service asking "Where is Jesus? Where is the Gospel? Why isn't Jesus mentioned, at all?"  The music is great, the speaker is incredibly gifted, but I can't find Jesus anywhere .And yet He is the only one that can give hope to this city. It's the name of Jesus that is powerful and mighty to save, not relevancy, or skinny jeans, or deep v-necks, or leather wristbands (not that any of that is bad.. I might wear that stuff one day). But GIVE ME JESUS. Please give me Jesus.

I pray that when we start Renew, we will indeed be relevant, and we will speak with beauty and creativity and innovation. But I pray that we will never try to be so relevant that we somehow convince ourselves that Jesus and his gospel is irrelevant. GIVE ME JESUS...ALWAYS.
